What are Skin Moles?

A skin mole, also known as a nevus, is a small, dark spot on the skin that is made up of cells called melanocytes. These cells produce the pigment melanin, which gives our skin its color. Moles can vary in size, shape, and color, and can appear anywhere on the body. Most people have between 10 and 40 moles on their body, and they often develop during childhood and adolescence.

How do Skin Moles Form?

Skin moles form when melanocytes grow in a cluster instead of being spread out evenly throughout the skin. It is not entirely clear why this happens, but genetics and sun exposure are thought to play a role. Some people are born with moles, while others develop them later in life. Moles can also darken or become more prominent during pregnancy or due to hormonal changes.

Are Skin Moles Dangerous?

Most skin moles are harmless and do not require any treatment. However, in some cases, moles can develop into melanoma, a type of skin cancer. It is important to monitor your moles for changes in size, shape, color, and texture, as well as any bleeding or itching. If you notice any changes or have concerns about a mole, you should see a doctor.
