Skin Tag
Skin tags are small, benign growths that often appear on the skin. While they are generally harmless, they can be unsightly and bothersome. In this article, we will discuss what skin tags are, what causes them, and how to get rid of them.
What Are Skin Tags?
Skin tags, also known as acrochordons, are small, soft growths that usually appear on the neck, armpits, eyelids, groin, and other areas where skin rubs against skin. They are usually flesh-colored or slightly darker and may be flat or hang off the skin like a tiny flap. Skin tags are very common and affect up to 46% of the population.
What Causes Skin Tags?
The exact cause of skin tags is unknown, but they tend to develop in areas where the skin rubs against itself, such as the neck, armpits, and groin. They are more common in people who are overweight or have diabetes. Hormonal changes during pregnancy and menopause can also increase the likelihood of developing skin tags.
